Story time is one of those moments which make you feel great about being a parent. There’s nothing like sitting by your child’s bed reading them a story and them hanging onto every word you say, asking ‘Why?’ a lot or even telling you the story themselves. But what about the days you really don’t want to, or the children aren’t ready for bed – well here’s the answer.
Once Upon a Monster on the Xbox 360 with Kinect – available
Enter into Sesame Streets Cookie Monsters favourite story book and along with his friend, the delightful little Elmo, your child can use their skills and charm to make other creatures fell better or solve an issue.
Developer Double Fine has kept the game as simple as possible and because of its simplicity you don’t get into a pickle when using the Kinect sensor. Aimed at the younger child, we reckon up to about 5 or 6 at the most, this game gives a little exercise routine to your child and also enables them to learn about being kind and friendly.
In between posing, ducking, jumping and flapping arms in the mini games there are some story modes which are a little tedious and hard for the child to concentrate. But, get them through this and they’ll enjoy the game.
Have to stress again that there’s nothing difficult at all about this game, it’s as simple as can be! It’s purely a listen to Elmo and Cookie Monster, complete the actions and help the monster! Each successful action earns you a star and the more stars you get the better you complete that story chapter.
With six chapters in all and several of the Sesame Street characters involved, this’ll keep your child entertained (while tiring them a little) on those evenings you don’t want to do story time!
Overall, bearing in mind its target age it’s a good game – certainly one for your Christmas list if you have gaming youngsters, an Xbox and Kinect Sensor.
