Learning to drive?  Why it’s smart to start before you depart!

Learners should start preparing for their Theory Testbefore they begin driving lessons. So many of us get behind the wheel for the very first time not even knowing what some of the basic road signs mean, let alone the essential rules and regulations.  Not only is this dangerous, but it can also cost us more money in the long run.

• Driving Test Success is urging all 16 year olds to start preparing for their Theory Test before they start driving lessons with their instructor.

• Currently a learner must be 17 years of age before they can sit the Theory Test but learners can still start preparing for the test before their seventeenth birthday.

• Learning the basic rules and regulations before getting behind the wheel is safer and it can save you time and money as your instructor won’t need to spend time during your lesson teaching you these.  Instead they can concentrate on teaching you how to drive which could result in fewer lessons.

• A recent survey conducted by Driving Test Success has alarmingly revealed that over half of learner drivers do not know what the national speed limit for cars and motorcycles is on a dual carriageway.

•  This is just one example of over 1,200 multiple choice questions that form part of the UK Driving Theory Test.  Out of the four possible answers, a staggering 52% of the 1,778 learner drivers that were surveyed were unable to correctly identify the right answer.

• If you want to achieve a first time pass, you must be prepared to put in the time studying the latest official DSA revision questions.                                                    

• A thorough understanding of the Official Highway Code and the ability to recognise developing hazards are also vital skills that you need to learn before you can become a safe driver and pass your test with confidence.
