This latest installment is dark. When you first begin playing you just can't wait for the last light (or any light for that matter) to appear. My initial thought was 'Oh god, if i have to play an entire game through squinting eyes, then this is going to be a tough session.'
METRO: Last Light follows up from the 2010 game - this time you play as survivor Artoym, who fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) was one of the survivors who had a connection to a dark one. (this is one of the creatures that taunted you in the first game).
You along with others embark on a journey that see's you caught between warring factions in the metro while fighting off and surviving the onslaught of mutated creatures that live in and above the Metro tunnels. On your journey you realise that many if the essentials are now valuable and rare, one of these being clean air. Throughout your missions you wear a mask, however a major part of you surviving is that mask. You need to ensure that screen in clean and that the filters are regularly changed, you're supplied with some but others you need to find along the way.
Games Booth Rating 7/10
The story line starts well, however by the end of the game you're totally confused and the story line as become fairly weak. There are long periods of dialogue and this is extremely boring, these are the times you need to make fresh tea, send a text message or two or have a quick smoke (if that's a habit I had).
There's many sections/ levels of this game, many have plenty of action for you test out weapons, skills etc, yet there are also several slow, thinking levels. The scene settings and graphics are well explored and created, although it can be a little glitchy at time.
Without patience (and regular breaks) you'll not get through this game. However, with this you will enjoy an FPS game that doesn't particularly shout 'AWARD WINNING GAME' but it is a good monster killing session. Forget the dodgy AI, glitches and bad accents, kill a few creatures than trade it in for BIOSHOCK.
