Mario & Sonic At The London Olympic Games 2012
You know there's the official London 2012 mascots, Mandeville and Wenlock but they have nothing on Sonic and Mario do they?
Sega really is 'going for gold' with the latest Mario & Sonic game. The London Olympics is just around the corner- waiting for the starters orders. While you're waiting, what better way to get you in the mood for a place on the podium than to team up with the the biggest stars of Sega, Mario & Sonic. For the 3rd time, they have now competed in the Olympics but this time is the first time in 3D.
While many athletes only compete in a couple of events this game enables you to take part in over 50 Olympic events. Play as single player or get a mate involved and test out multi player mode. Remember tapping those buttons as fast as your finger will take you, well, add in blowing and tilting and you've got yourself a whole new gaming experience this time round. As you know I'm no stranger to 3D and my opinions on the Nintendo 3DS are also easily known. I actually found that the 3D element of the game was a 'nice to have' but not essential in anyway. This is mainly because the best way to view the 3D is head on - face front and when you're tilting and getting close to the screens to blow it's simply not viewable. Secondly this is a game you could enjoy for hours, but you couldn't play it in 3D for hours, you'd have one mighty headache (personal opinion as always).
Anyway back to the game itself. The two greatest enemies of our afore mentioned heroes pop up in the midst of things. Bulky Bowser and the evil Dr Eggman do their best to scupper your chances of winning that GOLD medal. However if you're mind is clear, you've got tunnel vision and you're focused on winning then you can simply hop, skip, jump and of course run to the finish line. Of course, other great friends are also competing Wario, Princess Peach, Knuckles and Vector to name a few. Mario and Sonic have a team of ten friends each - and you can choose to be any of them. Certain characters are better suited to certain events!
Away from the track there's all the enjoyment of the field events such as football, tennis, gymnastics and swimming. Surely Sonic doesn't like getting his hair wet and shouldn't Wario take his hat off in the water!
It's a great game that you could enjoy alone, with friends or if you enjoy a family game night, buy it for the Nintendo Wii.
So that's the game in a nutshell, I would recommend it for some Summer fun and to help you feel part of the Olympic craze. The colours are bright, the instructions are fairly straight forward for each event and overall it's generally a lot of fun - more so in multiplayer mode.
If you're a fan of the previous Mario & Sonic games then it's time to trade them in and get up to date with the London Olympics version and if you've never played one before then go out, get it and enjoy at your leisure. There's no real gold medals to be won, so virtual ones it has to be. Who knows maybe Britain's real athletes can step it up a notch on home turf and show the world what proud Olympians we are!
I think that Sonic will win this time. It`s an nice entertainment. Keep up the good work and thanks for the lovely preview.
