Stinky Foot-Board
So I’ve been reviewing a very unique kind of PC gaming
peripheral lately – the Stinky Footboard.
Go on get all your laughter out now, because to be honest if
you’re a PC gamer, you’re going to want one of these in your life. We’ve all had a moan here and there about not
enough fingers to do what we want when playing games, especially MMO games, and
we know there’s pedals out there for racing gaming etc, but this Stinky
footboard gives you one hell of an advantage.
The Stinky footboard adds four extra buttons to your PC
allowing you to map four keyboard keys – take that and bind it with your macro
keystrokes and you maximise its potential to 16 additional keys. That’s more
keys than you have toes!
This board has loads of potential only really limited by
your imagination and heritage key settings etc. Its speciality seems to be FPS
games I was able to easily assign my weapon switch to either side of the board,
grenades to the top button and sprint to the bottom in Battlefield 3. During
game play of Diablo 3 I was in games heaven thanks to the Stinky footboard.
Usually you have to use the 1-4 keys as ability hot keys, but I simply assigned
each footboard key instead – leaving my hands free to do the roaming. Another
very useful game that this footboard is ideal for is League of Legends, just
simply assign your four spell casts to each footboard key and you’re in
business.
As I said it’s really only limited by your imagination or
your lack of ability to really give new things a go. If you’re seriously into game
play and want a competitive advantage then it’s certainly something you should
consider adding to your ‘most wanted’ list.
Setting up and getting started is easy and any PC gamer
should be more than used to key configurations for personalised gameplay. It
comes with extra springs to adjust the tension in the buttons – so if you like
a soft clicking key press or a solid tough key press the option is yours. You
can even have various spring strengths,
for instance if you want to have an easy click for throwing a grenade, but a
constant press down for running you can.
It’s worth noting that when you take your foot off the board, it always
returns to the central, balanced position. Meaning that when using for a
driving game you do have to physically keep your foot pressed on the switch –
but if you use the easy springs it’s not an issue at all as there’s no pressure
to lift back up. One other note, is that you will need to download the free
driver and config tool from the website but this is no real chore.
Amazon.co.uk sells the Stinky Footboard for around £70 which
is in line with a good gaming mouse I guess, and when you need extra buttons it’s
well worth it. The build quality of the Stinky Footboard is great, well it has
to be right – some gamers get very animated during game play. It is so tough in
fact, that on its website you can check out a video of it being run over and
still working.
Ultimately this is a useful little tool for the serious
gamer and the only thing that would improve it is to make it play a little
nicer with gamepads – such as the xBox controller for PC gaming (which I also
tried it with) although I have a feeling this may be more of an issue with
individual games and less the fault of the board itself.
Overall it’s a great PC gaming peripheral, something I have
never seen before and something I would definitely recommend you purchase going
forward – especially as games are only going to get more intense and require
more key strokes and key switches to be in place. We were given toes for a reason right – and
here’s a great reason to use them for gaming.
Overal Ruggedness: 10/10 I'm an angry gamer and it
still works!!!
