EGX REZZED ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH BAFTA’S BRITISH ACADEMY GAMES AWARDS
Gamer Network, one of the world’s leading games media businesses, today announces a partnership with the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) that sees the acclaimed PC, indie and console games show, EGX Rezzed, being held in collaboration with next year’s British Academy Games Awards. EGX Rezzed will run from 12-14 March 2015 at London’s Tobacco Dock, kicking off with a special exhibition preview day on the 12th, featuring BAFTA Inside Games – BAFTA’s initiative for those wanting to work in games – and culminating with the British Academy Games Awardsthat evening. March 13-14 will be full show days, with all of the exhibitors open to the public.
BAFTA has long been associated with promoting creative excellence in the screen arts and the British Academy Games Awards have become respected globally for recognising the very best the games industry has to offer. EGX Rezzed provides the perfect public platform for BAFTA’s mission to champion and celebrate the art and craft of games.
Both organisations also work to encourage, assist and inspire the next generation of game makers. BAFTA Inside Games, launched last year, creates opportunities for emerging talent to learn from BAFTA winners and nominees, helping them to take their first steps towards a career in the industry. It therefore finds a great home amongst EGX Rezzed Developer talks.
Rupert Loman, Co-founder and CEO of Gamer Network comments, “EGX Rezzed champions the very best in indie games development with many blockbuster releases having had their debuts at previous Rezzed events. The games on show at next year’s event are potential award winners of the future. Bringing the two brands together provides a perfect partnership between the industry’s most important awards ceremony and the best consumer games event.”
Harvey Elliott, Chair of BAFTA’s Games Committee, adds, “The UK is a hotbed of original and creative games development and, over the last few years, we’ve seen a broad array of UK developers take centre stage at the British Academy Games Awards and win the recognition they deserve. The rejuvenated indie community has also risen to the cutting-edge of the video games industry and competes very confidently on the world-stage. Our collaboration with EGX Rezzed ensures that we deliver on our aim to further raise the profile of the amazing talent the games industry has to offer and to preview some of the amazing experiences that we can expect in the year ahead.”
EGX Rezzed has been going from strength-to-strength over the last couple of years, offering a rare platform for developers to showcase their labours of love and gain the media recognition and players they deserve. One of the biggest success stories has been Devolver Digital’s Hotline Miami winning Game Of The Show and going on to receive global success. Rezzed continues to offer early insight into the gaming hits of the future.
Additional information will be announced on EGX Rezzed and the British Academy Games Awards and BAFTA Inside Games over the coming months.
