Disney Universe – first thoughts Platform: PS3

Out Now ( PS3 Xbox360 Wii )

What a joy it is to review this game! I took the opportunity to play this with my daughter.  As a family of Disney fans we eagerly awaited the start of this game.

In simple this game is a platform game, where you can wear the costumer of many Disney movie favourite characters from Alice’s Mad Hatter, Mickey Mouse or the mighty Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean to the more obscure characters like Hal or Iago (see I can see your wondering ‘who?’ already).

With several worlds to unlock and explore - although you can choose which order to unlock them in – there’s lots to do in this game. The best part of this is that it really is a family game.  You can choose to play it with up to four players or let your child play it alone.  A tick in the family entertainment box for this game.

There isn’t much variety across the worlds in terms of gameplay – you simply select your character and have to fight bad dudes while trying to collect Mickey Mouse shaped gold coins (which act as your currency for buying more character costumes and world unlocks),  gather objects which when placed in the correct location cause a reaction of some sort – such as opening a gate or raising stairs, becoming weapons etc or solving puzzles such as which buttons to stand on at what time etc.  But what you do gain in each level is fun!
In typical Disney style a lot of effort has gone into the colour, the imagination and overall feel good factor of the game.

As this is just my first initial thoughts and we haven’t explored all the levels there isn’t much more I can tell you.  All I can say is that if you have a young child who is either a Disney fan or an avid gamer then you need to put this on the Christmas list – it’ll give you some quality time with your kids and allow you to become one for a short time yourself.
