Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted
What a giggle this game is! Based upon the next film in the Madagascar series, Europe’s Most Wanted, you get to play all of your favourite characters, including Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, and Gloria the Hippo.
In order to make it home to New York, the team join a travelling circus across Europe. You’re not without those pesky penguins however – in fact they’re integral to the early stages of the game – giving you tasks and missions to complete around the cities and towns of Europe. Missions all relate to enhancing the awareness of the travelling circus, by using your skill, speed and determination to put up marketing posters, publicity stunts and more.
Along with the usual crazy crowd, the gang make new friends in the circus animals, including a Sea Lion, a Siberian Tiger and a Jaguar.
This game is colourful and cheery and great for the young ones, what I found annoying about this game was the controls and in particular the camera controls – there just doesn’t seem to be any correlation to the action on the screen. For those used to using the PS3 controller, this made it feel cumbersome and awkward. I was constantly turning the camera away instead of turning my character – and if a grown gamer gets annoyed the kids are.
The mini games are cheeky and the antics of the characters do give you a giggle every now and again, watching Gloria creep along suspended planks with all the grace of the Hippo she is, or Alex donning shades to disguise himself from the other town folk or animal catchers - never mind that he is furry, has a long tail and one hell of a mane.
Anyway overall a fun, light hearted game for the youngsters, but could’ve been a bit smoother on the camera angles and controls.
Available on the 12th October for all consoles, this should be a consideration fo your little gamers stocking this Christmas.
