Guest reviewer Iain Fisher:
I am renowned for my brutal honesty and somewhat strict commentary in my gaming reviews. Now, saying that, I have played some great first person shooters such as Call of Duty, BioShock, FEAR and such. When I heard that Medal of Honor was coming out, I immediately thought great! As this would fill a void for me until COD Black Ops 2 emerges. In fact right from the start I was overwhelmed by this game play and the detail in design and graphics.
The details in the graphics is exceptional, when it’s raining it
looks and feels wet and the sprites look damp - the detail in the surroundings are
so in-depth it’s mind-blowing. When you walk through a
dark room you felt the darkness and it created an eerie atmosphere, some games
instantly adapt the brightness to give you a fighting chance, but this one
didn’t and that made a big difference.
The cut scenes are pretty good too, there is some serious effort made in
these but not so much it’s used as a crutch for shoddy game play or
mission length. The missions are just right, not too short or
alternatively long that the game becomes boring. The maps are big and the
detail in war torn towns is brilliant, in the first mission you blow the heck out
of a sniper with a missile launcher and your engulfed with a dust cloud,
There are many nice little touches in this game it made it a delight to play.
The campaign can be whipped out quickly if you played it relentlessly,
but I feel you want to take your time with this. As per usual your team mates
in the game are there, giving advice and constructive information to aid the
success of your mission and more to the point they’re are not a hindrance! That’s
the annoying part of many games, team mates that you would love to shoot when
they get in your sights.
The AI is good, the enemy regroups, uses cover to hide and move while trying
most things to overpower you. The weapons are vast in choice and the realism on
the sniper rifle is so good it’s frustrating, watch out for wind and distance
because they matter – the developers have got it right in this aspects – good
job! DO NOT dismiss the melee weapon as
its brilliant not just boy scout pen knife, this thing is a beast.
The story line, involving a new type of super explosive and world
terrorism is quite plausible and I would say could possibly happen- somewhere
in the future. You’re simply (well not quite simply), chasing this guy all over
the world to kick his ass and as a game, its great fun doing it. There’s even a choice of ‘finale’ when you do
catch him - I kept going back and changing my mind!
The only the criticism I have is two-fold, the first being that there is
no add on challenges, its campaign and nothing else. The online maps could be a
bit better but they’re OK . BTW, the font size of any text in this game is so
bloody small, your screen could get STATIC BURNS!
In closing I would happily buy this game, I would also warn the COD
franchise that these boys have come out of the corner swinging - you best have
something special coming our way and not just a zombie add and some slap dash
maps on multiplayer.
