So here's a title that came out on Xbox One many years ago, but has only now been released onto the PS4. We never played the Xbox One version so this was something new for us.

Firstly, one thing to understand, is that this is a standard platform, left to right (with the occasional backwards moves) game. It starts off fairly tame, but believe me, has some tough and frustrating levels later on.

But let's start at the beginning, you're Max and your little brother Felix is so annoying that you went online and found a 'spell' that will get rid of your brother. After reciting it, a large glowing hand comes and takes little Felix away.  OK, so now you're feeling guilty, right? Well Max was, so as every big brother should do, you have got to go out there and get him back.  Felix had been taken by the very evil Mustacho and his evil 'creature' henchmen.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is set in the mystical world which Mustacho rules through fear, but there's one wise old lady who doesn't fear Mustacho and she's out to help you. She becomes your trusted companion, BUT, she's a digital, magical marker. This marker allows you to draw pillars of earth, branches, vines and later in the game control water and shoot electricity.  Each of these abilities comes in the form of a new colour for your digital pen and can only be gained by completing the relevant chapter.  There are seven chapters in total, each split into levels (meaning there are 20 levels in total for you to tackle).

Using the powers of the digital marker, Max journey's through fearsome forests and creepy caves, over lagoons of lava, scales towers of terror and finally meets Mustacho in his lair, where he has Felix captured.

This game is a great family game, which is fun enough to enjoy - especially with it's bright, colourful and easy on the eye graphics, yet offers some trivial challenges which will need you to put your thinking cap on and use your magic marker accurately - or you just might be a twig to short, or a loop too long and you'll fall to your death. Don't worry though, death is not the end,  you simply start at the last checkpoint and adjust your drawing technique.

As a little addition to the levels, but not an essential to the game are two side quests. There are 75 evil eyes in the levels that can be removed and each level also has a hidden piece of a magical medallion. Seek them all out if you dare!

The game overall is great and we're so pleased that it finally came to the PS4 platform.  A truly, original platform game for everyone to enjoy. Perfect for those moments when you've just had enough of free roaming, shoot 'em all, battlegrounds.

One to certainly add to your Christmas list if you've got pre-teen and early teen gamers.

Gamesbooth Rating 5/5
