Jmax from DONTNOD here! The 1st episode of Life is Strange is almost set for launch and I’m delighted to share the launch trailer with you.
We are all thrilled at the idea that players finally have their hands on our new game. It’s been an intense and sometimes challenging journey, but it was definitely worth it. And well, it’s far from over, as the team here is very hard at work on parts 2 to 5, ensuring they get released at timely intervals so you always know when the next one is going to drop.
The first episode that you’ll play is called Chrysalis and it’s basically an introduction to the world of Life is Strange. You will see Max and Chloe reunite and you will make important choices that will influence their destiny. You will see some of the short-term consequences of those choices but bear in mind that there are also mid and long-term repercussions that will pan out over the course of the later episodes, in a butterfly effect manner. So you might rewind your choices as much as you want in the short term but you will never know what might happen further down the line. And of course we’ll ensure that you always get surprised by unexpected turns of events and that your experience really feels unique and customized by your choices.
This first episode is also an introduction to the general mechanics of the game and although Life is Strange emphasizes story and choice over puzzles, you will also see an evolution over the next episodes in terms of how you need to combine different types of interactions and rewinds.
A free trial mode will be available on PS4, PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 so you can get a feel for the game before you make your first meaningful choice: to buy or not to buy the game! But let’s be honest here: at £3.99, you get 2 to 4 hours of gameplay (depending on how you play)… and it’s cheaper than a beer!
Enjoy.
Jmax (Co-founder of DONTNOD Entertainment)
As a reminder Life is Strange will be released on January 30, 2015. You can pick up the first episode for £3.99 or alternatively purchase a season pass for £15.99. The game will be available on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
Hands up if all those years ago you bought and played the first Resident Evil game? My hands up are! I wonder if Capcom knew back then that the franchise would be where it is today. Which is actually right back at the beginning thanks to the Resident Evil HD Re-mastered.
There’s been a few hiccups in the game play within the franchise along the way – remember the stupid Survival one, where you simply had to do the whole game without dying? But generally I am a fan of the games, in fact I do love them.
When I was offered to go back to the beginning and play the digitally re-mastered version of the original, I whooped at the chance – who wouldn’t want to step back into Gill Valentine or Chris Redfield’s steps through that eerie mansion house while being attacked by some damn ugly zombies or those annoying lickers?
So through the doors of the mansion we stepped and it was if we never left. From the moment, I stepped through the door into the hall, I remembered what happened round the next corner. I knew there was someone having his face chewed off.
The game, while re-mastered is still very similar to the original, in fact I would go as far as saying you can’t really tell what’s has been re-mastered. The controlling of your character certainly hasn’t and you still have the very annoying, frustrating camera angles. Many a time I was caught out running into a room then once the camera angle changed, I was running out of the room. Very annoying for times when you have to get into a room quick to push a statue.
While going through the mansion and its grounds there’s lots of puzzles to solve, zombies and creatures to kill and there’s lots of going round and round the corridors. This is because, like real life you can only carry so much – so you have to put objects, health and ammo away in your safe box – returning to collect it when needed. This can often mean running from one side of the mansion to the other as you’ve left a token in the box and you need it for a door or puzzle on the other side and the simple route is blocked by a locked or broken door!
This review is short and sweet, because the game is simply great. If you love Resident Evil in any capacity then you’re going to love this game. It’s just takes you back all those years.

EA AND VISCERAL GAMES TAKE PLAYERS TO THE STREETS IN THE BATTLEFIELD HARDLINE OPEN BETA ON FEBRUARY 3
Get a Piece of the Action in an All-New Cops vs. Criminals Battlefield Multiplayer Experience Built on Speed and Strategy
Visceral Games™, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) studio, today announced that Battlefield Hardline™, the next installment in the critically-acclaimed Battlefield™series, will host an open multiplayer beta from February 3* to February 8. The beta will be available to all players around the world on Origin™ for PC, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system. Visceral Games also today released a new trailer that gives gamers an in-depth look at how new innovations with story, speed and strategy in single player and multiplayer are helping to make Battlefield Hardline a complete first person shooter experience. To see “What’s New in Battlefield Hardline” visit http://youtu.be/IvKFoTPm1gQ.
“There’s nothing more valuable to our team than the relationship we have with our community. Their passion feeds our passion and their feedback has definitely helped make Hardline a better game,” said Steve Papoutsis, General Manager of Visceral Games and Executive Producer of Battlefield Hardline. “We want them to play the hell out of the beta next week and trust that they’ll keep that feedback coming so we can continue to fine tune the game.”
Battlefield Hardline builds on the foundation of the franchise’s signature multiplayer experience focused on team play and strategy and adds a new dimension of speed, making it the fastest Battlefield game ever. The open beta will feature three different maps and modes highlighting this cops and criminals fantasy world. The all-new Hotwire mode brings high-speed chases to the battlefield, as the criminals attempt to steal a list of marked cars while the cops try to repossess them. Available on two maps in the beta, Downtown and Dust Bowl, success in Hotwire will be predicated on teamwork and precision driving. Players can also experience the Battlefieldfranchise’s signature mode Conquest in Dust Bowl, with epic battles for up to 64 players**. And finally, the beta will also feature Heist, another new mode being introduced in Battlefield Hardline. Playable on the map Bank Job, the mode will pit criminals trying to pull off that big score and break into a bank vault, securing their take at drop off points in the map while a squad of cops work together to stop them.
The Battlefield Hardline beta will also provide access to the full breadth of multiplayer progression in the game, which features fresh new weapons, vehicles, gadgets and gear. Players will have to create new strategies on the battlefield with faster getaway methods like the zipline and muscle cars, or new entry tactics with the grappling hook and non-lethal takedown options like arrests, interrogations and stun guns. On top of all this, the beta will give the first look at another game mode called Hacker. This takes surveillance to the next level as one player on each side can hack the battlefield in different ways including hacking into security cameras, spotting enemies and specifying areas for their team to attack or defend. Hacker mode will be playable on all modes in the beta.
Battlefield Hardline brings the awe-inspiring, only-in-Battlefield destruction moments to LA and Miami in chaotic urban warfare. Powered by the Frostbite™ 3 game engine, Battlefield Hardline delivers an episodic single player campaign that follows rookie Miami Police Detective, Nick Mendoza, through a story of crime and revenge. This is brought to life by a veteran cast of Hollywood acting and writing talent, including Alexandra Daddario from True Detective, Wendy Calhoun from Justified, and Benito Martinez from The Shield.
Battlefield Hardline will be available March 20 in the UK on Origin for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360.
The beta will be available February 4-8 in Japan on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
** Conquest mode is available for 64 players on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Conquest mode will have a player cap of 24 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
