Resident Evil Re-Mastered

Hands up if all those years ago you bought and played the first Resident Evil game?  My hands up are! I wonder if Capcom knew back then that the franchise would be where it is today. Which is actually right back at the beginning thanks to the Resident Evil HD Re-mastered.

There’s been a few hiccups in the game play within the franchise along the way – remember the stupid Survival one, where you simply had to do the whole game without dying?  But generally I am a fan of the games, in fact I do love them.

When I was offered to go back to the beginning and play the digitally re-mastered version of the original, I whooped at the chance – who wouldn’t want to step back into Gill Valentine or Chris Redfield’s steps through that eerie mansion house while being attacked by some damn ugly zombies or those annoying lickers?

So through the doors of the mansion we stepped and it was if we never left. From the moment, I stepped through the door into the hall, I remembered what happened round the next corner.  I knew there was someone having his face chewed off.

The game, while re-mastered is still very similar to the original, in fact I would go as far as saying you can’t really tell what’s has been re-mastered.  The controlling of your character certainly hasn’t and you still have the very annoying, frustrating camera angles. Many a time I was caught out running into a room then once the camera angle changed, I was running out of the room.  Very annoying for times when you have to get into a room quick to push a statue.

While going through the mansion and its grounds there’s lots of puzzles to solve, zombies and creatures to kill and there’s lots of going round and round the corridors.  This is because, like real life you can only carry so much – so you have to put objects, health and ammo away in your safe box – returning to collect it when needed.  This can often mean running from one side of the mansion to the other as you’ve left a token in the box and you need it for a door or puzzle on the other side and the simple route is blocked by a locked or broken door!

This review is short and sweet, because the game is simply great. If you love Resident Evil in any capacity then you’re going to love this game. It’s just takes you back all those years.
