Super Penguins from Super Solid
Did you enjoy Temple Run? Have you played any of the alternatives? If not then here's something for you to try - Super Penguins for Android smartphones - available free from Google Play.
You're a penguin on the slippery ice slopes, using the tilt motion of your device you manoeuvre your self to collect the fish. In your way are:
- Oily Squids - these don't kill you but simply distract you by spraying their oil at your phone screen, making it difficult to see what's ahead.
- Octopus Legs - these come down at quite a pace when you least expect them, so be ready to jump
- Whales - these jump over head so time your jumps so not to bash into them
- Fallen Logs and large gaps
However there are also objects to collect that provide you with power ups. The previously mentioned fish build up points that can be used to purchase in game super power ups, such as invincibility and rockets. You can also gain these power ups by freeing your friends which have been captured by the pesky squids.
The object of the game is to save your friends and defeat the Octopus - but it's really a long distance running game that tests your patience and concentration. This is a fun and addictive game and like many mobile games, is great to be played when on a train or tube journey, or waiting in a car park for your other half to finish work (that's a personal thing!).
One issue I did have however is that on my HTC Desire S this game occasionally froze, or completely shut off my device, which would;ve annoyed me if it was a paid for game, but it's not so i tolerated those moments and got engrossed when I was able to play.
