ONE KNIGHT IN GOTHAM

GAME offers one Batman fan and their sidekick a once in a lifetime trip to Gotham (Village not City)

The tiny Nottinghamshire village that inspired Washington Irving’s Batman hosts unique Batman experience

It’s the closest thing to heaven a Batman fan could dream of: the chance to fight crime as the caped crusader in Gotham. Now retailer GAME is offering a unique trip to play the soon to be released title, Batman Arkham Knight, in Gotham with just one catch: it’s the tiny village of Gotham in Nottinghamshire, rather than Gotham City.

While Gotham City conjures up images of dark, foreboding skyscrapers, insane supervillains, Gotham village (population 1,600) is situated midway on the original road between Nottingham and Loughborough.

To mark the release of the final game in the Arkham series: Batman Arkham Knight, GAME is giving one fan and their sidekick the chance play Batman in Gotham (village not City).  They will get a new console as part of the prize package, time to game at the Country Cottage Hotel and explore Gotham.  Then they are free explore Gotham as Batman in their very own costume.

Despite the contrasts, the quaint sleepy village can claim to be the inspiration the city known to millions of comic, film and gaming fans around the world.

The historical connection dates back to 1807, when American author Washington Irving heard of local tales known of the ‘Mad Men of Gotham’. He then made the connection from the English village to New York for the first time, referring to Manhattan as Gotham in a series of satirical stories. Years later, DC Comics’ writer Bill Finger, chose the name Gotham as the setting for Batman

In Batman Arkham Knight, which is released on June 23rd, the Caped Crusader faces his deadliest foes once more with a lethal gallery of super villains, including The Scarecrow, The Penguin, Two-Face and Harley Quinn who unite to take down the Dark Knight once and for all.
