Roxio Game Capture - A review

So for some time now I have been testing out the Roxio Game Capture.

If you haven't heard of it before, it's a small device that you connect to your PS3 or Xbox 360, then connect to your PC or laptop and simply record, edit and share your game play.  Some of you will have experienced the complexity of using multiple devices and multiple cables to come up with some fan dangled way of recording your gaming, if you are one of these then I suggest you consider investing in one of these little pieces of kit.

If you don't already own one you'll need to go and purchase a component cable to make the connection to your chosen console, but if you've invested the £75 - £80 (depending on where you buy it from) on the Roxio then another £10 - £20 for a component cable won't go amiss.

Many of us enjoy sharing our gaming achievements with our friends across the social networks such YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and more, the team at Roxio seem to know this and have created this 'little black box' to enable us to do this with ease. You can even edit your captures game play by adding in voice overs,  and overlays, such as adding in your score table etc.

You'll initially need to install the Roxio software onto your laptop or PC, takes about 10 - 15 minutes. Once completed you're ready to connect the Roxio. Connect it via your purchased component cable to your console and then to your TV via the component cable supplied with the Roxio - all you then need to do is connect via USB (supplied) to your laptop.

Start the programme on your laptop and switch your TV's output to component out and your consoles display output to the same.   Your console game screen should now be appearing in the screen of the Roxio software playing on your desktop.

All you need to do now is hit the capture button and begin recording your game. Yes it's as easy as that - the Roxio supports multiple resolutions and is considerably clear, it also allows you to save as avi, divx or wmv. It's easy to set up and you can see from the video below how easy it is to capture your game play.

I will definitely be using the Roxio on a regular basis to capture gaming moments and it'll certainly enhance some of the reviews for Games Booth.

I do have to say that you need to make sure you have a fast enough laptop or PC otherwise the capture is not in 'real time'. Apart from that it captures game play in true colour, with sound and it's very easy to set up and use.

For those wishing to share gaming with friends on YouTube or more then you really should put this on your Fathers Day list, or certainly your Christmas list!

Here's a video of me playing Battlefield Bad Company 2, maybe you were playing and maybe I killed you! Ha Ha Ha

Look out for further videos and edited videos on Games Booth more frequently.

So overall well done Roxio for making a great device.
